MBABANE:Mothusi Shupinyane Ka Ndaba,the Media Liaison Officer of the African National Congress(ANC) National Working Committee(NWC) has released a statement confirming that,the issue of eSwatini main opposition leader Mlungisi Makhanya was discussed at the highest level of the organization.

Mlungisi Makhanya,the President of eSwatini main and largest liberation movement,the People’s United Democratic Movement(PUDEMO) was allegedly poisoned about two(2) weeks ago by a close comrade who was allegedly working with State agents.

But after reports emerged suggesting that Makhanya was recovering in a South African hospital,the State agents launched consistent social media attacks against the PUDEMO leader.

This comes after Makhanya was declared a wanted man for fighting for democracy and, the eSwatini Government through Spokesperson Alpheous Nxumalo had paraded a two hundred thousand Rands(R200,000.00) reward to anyone who might kidnap or kill the opposition leader, PUDEMO alleged earlier during a press conference.

“The NWC received a report on the meeting between the People’s United Democratic Movement of eSwatini and the ANC over the attempted assassination of the PUDEMO President Comrade Mlungisi Makhanya. The ANC re-iterates the condemnation of these attempts on the life of Comrade Mlungisi Makhanya and continue to call for a peaceful and democratic settlement of the challenges facing eSwatini”, the ANC said through the statement released on Tuesday afternoon.

The African National Congress further touched on various issues manifesting around the world including the ongoing war in the Middle East.

Alpheous Nxumalo,the Government Spokesperson declined to comment about the matter.

On another note,the poisoning of the main opposition leader comes amid political tension and fears within the eSwatini corridors of power that,another political unrest might erupt.

The regime has since embarked on a crackdown on PUDEMO leaders including infiltrating the Mass Democratic Movement(MDM) to spread propaganda and hatred on social media against the main liberation movement.

Dozens of PUDEMO leaders have been killed since the formation of the political organization, others including Gabriel Mkhumane were hunted and killed allegedly by the eSwatini State agents while hiding in the neighboring South Africa.
