MBABANE: An application filed by convicted pro-democracy Member of Parliament(MP) Mduduzi Bacede Mabuza, seeking an order directing prison authorities to allow him to eat his own food amid escalating poisoning cases targeting human rights defenders, has been dismissed by the High Court of eSwatini.
This comes a few weeks after the King’s Tinkhundla undemocratic regime allegedly used State agents to poison Mlungisi Makhanya, the President of the People’s United Democratic Movement(PUDEMO), the eSwatini main opposition leader survived the assassination attempt after being rushed to a South African hospital last month.
Judge Titus Mlangeni dismissed the application by the convicted pro-democracy MP this week, placing him at a high risk of being poisoned by the State.
The MP was convicted on politically motivated terrorism charges merely for demanding democracy, he was subsequently sentenced to life imprisonment.
Eswatini is not a democracy, political parties are banned from participating in elections, while human rights defenders including independent journalists are arrested, tortured, forced into exile or even killed for demanding democracy.
