LETTER TO THE EDITOR: Prime Minister Russell Mmiso Dlamini must stop personalizing fight against corruption, allow ACC to work independently.

Monday, 21st October, 2024

May I offer a comment on the Prime Minister’s latest stunt.

The whole approach of the Prime Minister is wrong, he is not supposed to involve himself in the enforcement of the law, in fighting corruption.

That’s the duty of the ACC operating independently of political influence. Once the Premier enters the terrain of influencing operations of law enforcement agencies, then he himself is violating the law and deserves to be charged and face prosecution.

It is not for him to supervise operations of the ACC because that automatically absolve him from any wrongdoing doing, yet he too is a potentially corrupt element if the issues of the NDMA allegations are anything to go by.

So, his supervisory role on the ACC is mischievous and should be discouraged. Clearly, his leadership qualities is wanting, and that his language is beneath the position he holds.

For example, not too long ago, a verbal recording was published wherein he referred to an MP who is supposedly his associate as a “weak MP” and is only good for exploitation.

Next, for a whole PM to issue a threat to Editors that he will walk away if their colleague is given the platform to speak, is despicable.

Worst of all, why would he set the ACC on the Chief Justice? Does he think the CJ would take it lightly and do nothing about it?.Where does that leave the rest of the citizenry, when two Bulls from the same neighbourhood fight? It is, therefore, inconceivable why the ACC which is supposedly under the Ministry of Justice and Constitutional Affairs, should report to the Prime Minister, periodically.

Once the Premier start targeting his perceived enemies (Attorney General and CSC Chairman), with the sole purpose of sequestrating them from public life, so that he can rule supremely without being challenged or advised, then we as Nation should accept that the ship has no radar.
