MBABANE:Gcina Sibonangaye Nxumalo, the Principal Labour Officer in the Ministry of Labour and Social Security allegedly held a secret meeting with Basil Tfwala, the Legal Officer of the Media Workers Union.
The meeting allegedly took place on Monday at the Kentucky Fried Chicken(KFC) in Mbabane, the Legal Officer who is representing suspended Eswatini TV workers confirmed to this Swaziland News on Wednesday.
“The Principal Labour Officer asked me not to be hard on the Eswatini TV Chief Executive Officer(CEO) Mlamuli Dlamini because the more we push this matter, Minister Savannah Maziya is demanding answers from him. I told the Labour Officer that I am representing workers who were unlawfully suspended and I will not hold any meeting outside that mandate. Yena phela utsite ucela kusihlanganisa ngoba CEO uva kungatsi tsine as a union, sesi-personal towards him. We are not personal but we are representing the workers”, said the Legal Officer of the Media Workers Union.
Tfwala was contacted by this publication to clarify the matter after this journalist obtained an audio where he was reporting to the workers that, he was called to attend a meeting at KFC.
In the audio, Tfwala assured the workers that the CEO was under pressure such that he “has sent the Principal Labour Officer” to engage him.
Tfwala then assured the workers that he will not sell them but will give an update report about every meeting that they mandate him to attend regarding this matter”.
The Eswatini TV Chief Executive Officer declined to comment while efforts to reach the Principal Labour Officer proved unsuccessful at the time of compiling this report.
On another note, about ten(10) Eswatini TV workers were suspended for allegedly participating in union activities, demanding better salaries.
The workers subsequently reported the CEO to Information Minister Savannah Maziya on alleged corruption, the CEO was also taken to court.
