MBABANE:The Ministry of Commerce, Industry and Trade in eSwatini has confirmed that, the ongoing political unrest in Mozambique “is now negatively impacting trade” with neighboring countries.
In a press statement released on Tuesday, the Commerce Ministry whose Minister is Mancoba Khumalo, assured businesses that, “Government is monitoring the situation while identifying sectors that are already affected” by the ongoing political violence in the neighboring country.
“Owing to the ongoing civil strife in the Republic of Mozambique and cognisant that sectors of our economy mainly fuel, sugar and others do trade in Mozambique. Also cognisant of the constraints Eswatini traders are currently facing in that country, the Ministry of Commerce, Industry and Trade wishes to draw it to the attention of Eswatini traders of the need to take precaution and exercise due diligence when engaging in trade in Mozambique, given the prevailing situation”, reads the statement in part.
Eswatini is a land locked country trading with the neighboring South Africa and Mozambique, the ongoing political unrest in the South-eastern country will have negative effects on the tiny Kingdom’s economy.
