MBABANE:Dr. Nhlakanipho Gabriel Wisdom Mdziniso, the University of Eswatini(UNESWA) Lecturer has accused Sigodvweni Police of refusing to arrest a suspect who stole his First National Bank(FNB) Automatic Teller Machine(ATM) card and subsequently withdrew ten thousand Rands(R10,000.00).
Speaking to this Swaziland News on Monday, the Lecturer said Sigodvweni Police tried to force him to forgive the suspect despite the availability of electronic evidence alleging that, the suspect allegedly committed fraud and withdrew the money.
“The police said I must engage and forgive the suspect, batsi asikhulumisane manje ngiyamangala mine kutsi kani emaphoyisa asasebenta njani?. Ungatsi utobika licala bese wona atsi khulumisana nemsolwa?,” said the Lecturer.
On another note,in videos sourced from FNB Eswatini ATM CCTV servers, the suspect “is seen withdrawing the money”.
The Lecturer said, “the suspect is his neighbour at Logoba-Matsapha and may have identified his FNB Personal Identification Number(PIN) in other ways as he interacts with him within the community”.
Senior Superintendent Phindile Vilakati, the Police Spokesperson, declined to comment about the matter while efforts to seek a comment from the suspect proved unsuccessful at the time of compiling this report.
Reached for comments by this Swaziland News on Monday afternoon, lawyer Sibusiso Nhlabatsi said, police have the discretion to promote or facilitate conciliation between a complainant and a suspect but on minor cases like ‘insults’ not theft or fraud.
“In this case, there’s no way the police could facilitate conciliation between the complainant and the suspect, they must just arrest the suspect”, said the lawyer.
