ETHOPIA:Antonio Guterres, the United Nations(UN) Secretary General met King Mswati other Heads of State during the African Union(AU) Summit held in Ethiopia-Addis Ababa on Saturday, he pledged to assist the African continent secure two(2) seats at the UN Security Council.
This forms part of the Ezulwini Consensus where African leaders agreed to advocate for two(2) seats at the UN Security Council, it was further agreed that, the seats must have veto powers.
“I will do everything within my power whilst still serving as the Secretary General of the UN to ensure that the reforms happen and that Africa has two permanent seats with veto powers,”said the UN Secretary General as quoted by Government online platforms.
It has been reported that, currently there are five permanent members of the UN Security Council and these are the United States of America, Russia, China, France and the United Kingdom.
