It’s a pity to note that, within the Mass Democratic Movement(MDM) there are people who believe anyone who disagrees with them must be insulted or threatened.
Hosea Member of Parliament(MP) Sifiso Mabuza, a brother to convicted pro-democracy MP Mduduzi Bacede Mabuza was insulted on social media merely for expressing support for King Mswati and the current ruling Tinkhundla system of Governance.
Perhaps, let me state that, the insults directed to the Honorable Hosea MP merely for holding and expressing his own political views was not only unjust but, a clear demonstration that, some of those who claim to be advocating for democracy are actually ignorant with regards to democratic principles.
In politics there’s no monopoly of thinking or views, citizens are free to express or hold their own opinions and further subscribe to political ideologies of their choice.
MP Bacede Mabuza is a progressive but, that does not mean all his family members must subscribe to his ideological beliefs.
Anyone therefore, who believes Bacede’s relatives must be pro-democratic as well and advocate for multiparty democracy, is an ignorant political novice with no basic understanding of the principles of democracy.
Insulting a whole MP merely for expressing a political view was an indication that, there are people who claim to be supporting the calls for democracy but, they don’t even understand democracy.
In fact these people in the Mass Democratic Movement(MDM) are actually a duplicate of Tinkhundla, they idiolize and express love and support for their political leaders but, they dont want MP Sifiso Mabuza and others to express loyalty to King Mswati and hold their own political views, what type of democracy is this?.
No-wonder some of these people insult independent journalists because to them, democracy is about supporting their political ideology, they even went as far as telling a journalist what to write, what a shame!!!.
Well, I’ve decided to defend the Hosea MP because if we allow people to think anyone who expresses support for Tinkhundla must be insulted, then we are far from understanding democracy that embraces diversity of political views and ideologies.
Politics is about debates among others and, the competition of ideas, the MP has right to express support for King Mswati after-all, he never expressed support for multiparty democracy and those who elected him “were fully aware that he is a supporter of Tinkhundla”.
It’s true that Tinkhundla is an undemocratic system of Governance at least according to my own political view, it excludes the diverse participation of political parties in elections.
But others believe Tinkhundla is democratic, anyone who supports Tinkhundla is entitled to do that and those who disagree with the Hosea MP must engage him in debates not insults.
