Eswatini Director of Energy Thabile Nkosi leading SADC discussions on Sustainable Energy Interventions and strategies.

MBABANE:Thabile Nkosi, the Director of Energy in the Ministry of Natural Resources and Energy led discussions on Sustainable Energy Interventions in the Southern African Development Community(SADC) region as part of the ongoing Sustainable Energy Week (SEW) held in Gaborone, Botswana.

Government online platforms reported on Tuesday that, in her role as moderator, Director Nkosi facilitated a thoughtful exchange among panelists and participants, highlighting current energy interventions in the SADC region and identifying key priority projects for advancing regional energy sustainability. 

“The session explored the current energy landscape in the SADC region, highlighting ongoing priority projects, and discussing the strategic interventions required to improve regional energy security. The panel provided a comprehensive analysis of the steps being taken to foster a sustainable energy future across SADC. It sparked a dialogue and built consensus on the immediate and long-term actions required to drive sustainable energy interventions in the SADC region. As the Southern African region continues to grapple with energy access and security of supply challenges and the global transition towards cleaner energy sources, key regional stakeholders must collaborate to drive sustainable energy interventions and shift towards fast execution of programs,” reads the Government online report.

The panelists under Thabile Nkosi include Steve Dhiwa, the Executive Director, Southern African Power Pool (SAPP) and representation of regulatory authorities, Francois Robinson the Acting Executive Director-Regional Energy Regulators Association of Southern Africa (RERA), representing renewable energy agencies, Gurbuz Gonul, the Director Country Engagement and Partnerships, International Renewable Energy Agency (IRENA) and Kudakwashe Ndhlukula, the Executive Director, SADC Centre for Renewable Energy and Energy Efficiency SACREEE).

Others include Aisma Vitina, the Head of Accelerated Partnership for Renewables in Africa (AFRA) Secretariat Danish Energy Agency and utility corporations and Letshego Moeng, the Transformation and Strategy Manager Botswana Power Corporation.
