MBABANE:Young male journalists within the ‘State’ owned Swazi Observer are appealing to the Board of Directors to launch an investigation into allegations of abuse of power and, sexual harassment against editor Sibongile Sky Sukati.
The editor who recently recovered from a strange sickness, is allegedly forcing young journalists aged between twenty(20) and thirty(30) years, to sleep with her and those who refused were either suspended or fired.
“Uvele abuke lamkhanukako ahambe aye endlini bese ushayela driver atsi “ukuphi umane ungiletsele umfana wami ngilandlini. The following day soyawubukwa ngule staff sonkhe-ke kutsi wena bolele ka-Sky,” said one of the journalists.
Five(5) journalists confessed to have been forced to sleep with the editor and one Sibusiso Dlamini allegedly survived after Managing editor Mbongeni Mbingo protected him from the alleged horny editor.
“Sibusiso survived after Mbingo saw Sky demonstrating a desire to sleep with him as well,wavele Mbingo wakhuluma openly inside the newsroom watsi “ungamudli-ke lona Sky ngumfana wami, ungacali umudle”, said one of the journalists.
Sibongile Sky Sukati declined to comment and clarify the allegations leveled against her.
Reached for comments on Saturday, Basic Tfwala, the Legal Officer of the Media Workers Union confirmed that, the editor was reported to the Union by Swazi Observer journalists for demanding sex from young workers.
“We can confirm that, she was reported to the Union by some journalists and at first, we thought maybe, these journalists were bitter after being fired even though they stated that, they were fired for refusing to have sex with her. Manje umuntfu nasacoshiwe uyaye ube nalokutsi maybe sewu-bitter. But after receiving the same complaints from those who are still working there, we launched an investigation and the investigation is ongoing,”said the Media Workers Union Legal Officer.
On another note, Swaziland News editor Zweli Martin Dlamini posted earlier on Saturday on his social media page, condemning the conduct of the Swazi Observer editor.
