MBABANE:Lot Vilakati,the Secretary General of the Swaziland National Association of Teachers(SNAT) has expressed warm appreciation to Education and Training Minister Owen Nxumalo for the early payment of contract teachers and, the release of their posting letters.
Speaking to this Swaziland News on Monday afternoon, the SNAT Secretary General said for the first time, the contract teachers received their posting letters before the opening of schools.
Vilakati further attributed this to the effectiveness of the union in fighting for the welfare of teachers and,the willingness to engage demonstrated by the Minister particularly, in addressing issues affecting teachers.
“We will also thank the Ministry for delivering as per their promise, even though some did not get but many got their salaries it’s a good thing,” he said.
The SNAT Secretary General then urged all contract teachers to join and be full registered members of SNAT, one of the largest trade unions in eSwatini.
On another note, Education Minister Owen Nxumalo earlier promised to address issues affecting teachers,he said he will not wait for teachers to protest but, encouraged dialogue to discuss these issues.
