Thursday, 6th March, 2025

MBABANE:Albert Mhlanga, the Surveyor General in the Ministry of Natural Resources and Energy is now seventy(70) years old but, working for Government on renewable contracts.

Eswatini has about 70% of the population living below the poverty line, the country is also facing a high unemployment rate triggered by, among others, elderly who are holding public positions even after reaching the retirement age.

It has been disclosed that, Mhlanga who was born in 1955 subsequently retired in 2015 but, was recalled from home to work under an employment Government contract.

As a result, qualifying eSwatini Government employees who were supposed to be promoted were sidelined.

Reached for comments by this Swaziland News on Thursday afternoon, Albert Mhlanga, the Surveyor General confirmed that, he was still working for Government at 70 years but, referred further comments to his employer-Government.

“Sewuyitfolephi lendzaba Nkhosi?.But I’m not in a position to comment, it’s my employer who engaged me on contract and Government is better positioned to comment,” he said.

But Government Spokesperson Alpheous Nxumalo declined to comment about the matter.

On another note, Sicelo KhungaNkhosi Dlamini, the Mayiwane Member of Parliament(MP), has been vocal in Parliament, calling for all civil servants who reached the retirement age of sixty(60) to go home and open job opportunities for young emaSwati.

But this publication is currently conducting an investigation to uncover and expose the names of those who are still working for Government after “fraudulently changing their dates of birth and those who secured contracts through alleged corrupt means”.

A recent case that was successfully investigated by this Swaziland News is that of Sipho Tsabedze, the dismissed Principal Secretary(PS) in the Ministry of Public Service who allegedly changed his date of birth through fraudulent means, to avoid retirement.

Tsabedze was refusing to retire and open opportunities for other emaSwati to be promoted and/or employed in Government.
