MBABANE:Themba Khumalo, the Managing Director of the Eswatini Post and Telecommunications Corporation(EPTC) says, thirty-one(31) employees on fixed term contracts will lose their jobs at the end of this month but clarified that, all terminal benefits will be paid.
Responding to this Swaziland News on Thursday morning when asked to clarify information suggesting that, the State owned company was retrenching, the Managing Director said, “EPTC Management is in the process of restructuring the company” so that it can become self-sustainable.
“It’s true that 31 employees on fixed term contracts will leave the company at the end of March as their contracts were not renewed, all their terminal benefits will be paid. We are in the process of restructuring the company so that it can become self-sustainable after expiriencing and suffering losses amid copper theft,” he said.
The Managing Director said, the company lost over forty-thousand(40000) customers as part of it’s equipment used to provide internet was stolen but assured the public that, efforts were being made to save the State owned entity from collapsing.
“The restructuring started from the Management, some senior Managers are no longer working at EPTC because we had to analyse if that particular position is still relevant to the company. Now the company decided not to renew contracts for some junior employees and its normal, if you are working on contract once the company decides not to renew your contract, you just leave. As the Managing Director,I am working on contract and if the company can decide not to renew my contract, I will leave without any problem. So we are not retrenching but we have employees whose contracts have expired and,the company decided not to renew those contracts,” said the Managing Director.
