MBABANE:The South African Department of International Relations and Cooperation(DIRCO) has ordered Taiwan to remove its Liason Office in the capital city-Pretoria by the end of March 2025, the Office has been further downgraded to a mere Commercial Office.
It is alleged that, Taiwan has been hoping to speak to King Mswati to engage South African President Cyril Ramaphosa to reverse the decision seeking to expel Taipei from the capital city.
Jeremy Liang, the Taiwan “Ambassador” to eSwatini declined to comment about the recent developments.
On another note, the South African Government does not recognize Taiwan as a country but as a Province of China in terms of United Nations(UN) Resolution 2758 of 1971 that recognized the “One China Principle”.
