MBABANE:Bakery companies under the Eswatini Baker’s Association have written a letter to Commerce, Industry and Trade Minister Mancoba Khumalo, urging him to facilitate the process of increasing the price of bread.

Efforts to reach Government Spokesperson Alpheous Nxumalo proved unsuccessful at the time of compiling this report.

In the letter dated 24th March 2025, the bakery companies said, the requested price increase comes amid escalating costs of production.

“The Baker’s Association is hereby applying for a bread price review to mitigate costs increases already incurred as a proactive measure to avoid further closures in the industry”, reads the letter in part.

With effect from October 2025, the bakery companies want white bread to cost seventeen Rands and eighty cents(R17.80) and brown to cost sixteen Rands and twenty-five cents(R16,25).
