MBABANE:”King Mswati’s name was falsely abused in an attempt to sabotage the investigation into outgoing outgoing Government Spokesperson Alpheous Nxumalo rape allegations”, Zweli Martin Dlamini, the editor of this Swaziland News told the South African Broadcasting Corporation(SABC) Radio Station-Ligwalagwala FM on Friday morning.
When interviewed by Presenter Sindisiwe Mlangeni, the editor said before the arrest of the Government Spokesperson, he received information from State Intelligence sources suggesting that, Nxumalo was being investigated for alleged rape but, a powerful faction was attempting to defeat the ends of justice by sabotaging the case.
In the process, the editor said the faction was manipulating the name of Mswati to intimidate the police saying, the King was against the investigation and “wants Nxumalo to continue working as a Government Spokesperson and therefore”, the investigation must be stopped.
“But in my investigation I discovered that, the King never interfered with the investigation and that, he was not even aware that Nxumalo was being accused of rape. After we exposed the attempt to falsely use the name of the King in defeating the ends of justice, the police intensified the investigation and Nxumalo was subsequently arrested”, said the editor.
On another note, the editor thanked Judge Mumcy Dlamini for being fair in this particular case adding that, despite the accusations, “Nxumalo is not a flight risk” and, remains innocent until proven guilty.
“Now that the matter is before the court, Nxumalo will be convicted if there’s sufficient evidence suggesting that, he raped the children or acquitted if he is innocent. For now, he is a suspect and remains innocent until proven guilty”, the editor told the SABC Radio Station.
