Eswatini owing Taiwan over R4billion, loans secured to complete Construction of King Mswati’s International Convention Centre(ICC).

MBABANE:Eswatini is owing the Chinese Province-Taiwan over $260million(over R4billion), the loans were secured to complete King Mswati’s International Convention Centre(ICC) and Five Star Hotel(FISH).

Taiwan Ambassador Jeremy Liang referred comments to the Government but, Acting Government Spokesperson Thabile Mdluli declined to comment.

Taiwan recently secured a tender in eSwatini worth R5.2billion, to construct the Strategic Oil Reserve.

Eswatini is facing a health crisis amid shortage of drugs in public hospitals and, the Government has not yet made any effort to secure loans for the purchasing of medication, dozens have died since crisis erupted.

But last week, health workers engaged in a protest and marched to the Ministry of Health to deliver a petition in demand for working equipment.

This comes after some frustrated patients went on a rampage and acted violently against health workers, demanding health services.
