MBABANE:Neal Rijikernberg, the eSwatini Minister of Finance has assured emaSwati that, the proposed Value Added Tax(VAT) increase won’t be implemented anytime soon.
Speaking on his “Finance-In-Focus” online program last week, the Finance Minister said, the decision to halt the VAT increase was taken after South Africa suspended the implementation as well.
But the eSwatini Parliament had already approved the 0.5% from 15% to 15.5% when South Africa suspended the increase, the motion seeking to increase the VAT was supported by Hhukwini Member of Parliament(MP) Alec Lushaba and subsequently adopted by the House.
But Mayiwane MP Sicelo ‘KhungaNkhosi’ Dlamini was vigorously opposed to the proposed increase, he urged Government to increase salaries for all workers in the country before increasing tax.
