MBABANE: Lizzie Nkosi, the Minister of Health said 108 000 indicative doses of the AstraZeneca vaccine against COVID-19 are expected in the Kingdom of Eswatini by mid February.
Speaking during a press conference held in Mbabane, the Health Minister further mentioned that African Union has secured a provisional 270million doses for distribution across the African continent including eSwatini.
“The African Union has secured a provisional 270 million doses for distribution across the continent in 2021 including Eswatini. Eswatini expects to obtain about 15% (237,328 doses) of the population’s doses from this platform.” she said.
The Minister further mentioned that Government has ordered 2 million doses from the Serum Institute of India, which has a sub-licensing agreement with AstraZeneca/Oxford University, and they expect the vaccines from the Serum Institute of India in phases with the first phase expected in the second quarter of 2021.
