It is important to clarify that, kubutseka is not part of our culture but a mere stupidity designed to blind the people and promote loyalty to King Mswati, an absolute Monarch.
As a result, you find a young or old man with absolutely no future or something to eat, expressing pride to have undergone “kubutseka”.
But before you conclude a conversation with that man, he will tell you that “isosobele umbutfo” meaning; I am hungry please give me money so that I can buy something to eat.
I am a traditionalist, very proud of my culture particularly imvunulo but, I’m not a politically blinded Liswati but a patriotic citizen who is allergic to political stupidity disguised as eSwatini culture.
In fact, I strongly disagree with the manipulation of our culture by King Mswati and his corrupt loyalists to promote royal supremacy and political oppression.
“Kubutseka” is mere stupidity and anyone who thinks he has achieved everything in life and far better than any other Liswati just because “he is wearing that simohlwana necklace”, is equally stupid and literally ignorant.
Eswatini is facing a health crisis amid shortage of drugs in public hospitals but, you find young men or “tibutseki” wearing emajobo with nothing on the upper body thus exposing themselves to contracting pneumonia.
When they visit public hospitals, they will be told to visit pharmacies to buy medication and upon arrival they won’t receive free medication just because they are wearing simohlwana, everything is money and eSwatini has reached a critical health crisis stage; if you don’t have money to buy medication, you die.
King Mswati is destroying the youth by promoting this “kubutseka” lessons in schools, this is not our culture but stupidity in a political ‘makeup’.
It’s very unfortunate to note that ‘tibutseki’ were brainwashed into thinking they are real emaSwati, we don’t need to undergo or go through “stupid rituals” to be real emaSwati, we are citizens of this country.
Therefore, the youth who still believe they have made it in life by undergoing “kubutseka” are misleading themselves, this is not our culture but a politically designed process meant to blind the people so that, they can pay allegiance to the oppressor.
While paying allegiance to King Mswati and the Monarchy, they will remain poor and die of starvation with their stupid necklaces(simohlwana), kubutseka is not an achievement but stupidity.
