MBABANE:Prime Minister Russell Mmiso Dlamini has expressed eSwatini’s desire to manufacture chip products, Government online platforms reported on Monday.
The PM has been speaking during a meeting with Taiwan External Trade Development Council (TAITRA) President James Huang, held on the sidelines of the Expo 2025 in Osaka, Japan. Taiwan is currently the largest producer of semiconductors.
“The meeting took place after a tour of the Tech World stand, where the PM and his delegation were taken on a digital tour of Taiwan’s biodiversity and technological advancements. During the tour, the delegation was also briefed on the semiconductors industry in Taiwan.TAITRA President James Huang pledged to support Eswatini realise this dream, beginning with introducing a training programme for emaSwati students on IT semi conductor industries so that the country can produce different experts. Huang recognised Eswatini’s potential to become one of their centres in Africa”, reads the Government online report.
On another note, the Prime Minister and his delegation used the opportunity to strengthen existing bilateral relations with Saudi Arabia, Türkiye and Serbia.
“During a bilateral meeting following a tour of the Saudi Arabia stand, the PM was briefed on the preparations for Expo 2030, which will be hosted by Saudi Arabia.Representatives of Saudi Arabia recognised Eswatini for being one of the first countries to support the Middle East country in its bid to host Expo 2030. Eswatini was also recognised for its unique strength in culture, and advised to use modern technology to promote it during the Expo should the country choose to exhibit”, the report states.
