MBABANE:Edgar Lungu, the late former Zambian President contributed to global diplomacy and spearheaded key infrastructure projects in his home country, António Guterres, the United Nations(UN) said through a statement released by his Spokesperson Stéphane Dujarric on Friday.
Lungu who was also a close friend to King Mswati died on Thursday while receiving treatment in a South African hospital.
“The Secretary-General has learned of the passing of former President Edgar Chagwa Lungu of Zambia. Former President Lungu made significant contributions to diplomacy and spearheaded key infrastructure projects in the country during his tenure. The Secretary-General extends his condolences to his family, the Government and the people of Zambia”, the Spokesperson for the UN Secretary General said through the statement.
